GENIUS ROUND

Hard questions from all over

2 points each

1. Name every state abbreviation you can spell using the given sports league abbreviations (in spelled order). For example, Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) - you can get MA for Massachusetts - but you can't get LA for Louisiana or MS for Mississippi because they don't occur in that order - and you can't combine or mix/match these letters with other sports abbreviations. Use only these major US sports leagues: football, baseball, hockey, basketball, stock car racing, golf (tour). One point each real one, minus one point for any fakes.
2. MTV Unplugged first aired November 26, 1989, featuring Syd Straw, Elliot Easton, and what better known English band whose name has many M-W definitions including 'to gain or win by a narrow margin' and 'a profit taken by a middleman on goods or transactions?'
3. Congressional sessions open with the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance, as do many government meetings at local levels, and meetings held by many private organizations. All states require a regularly scheduled recitation of the pledge in public schools - except which four? Two border the pacific - the other two have no ocean coastline, are about 2100 miles apart, and start with adjacent letters of the alphabet.
4. Bronze is an alloy that consists primarily of what element - and commonly has 10-12% of what other element? Note each of these elements periodic table symbols contain one letter from its name and one NOT from its name - which is somewhat odd/rare.
5. The VA will provide a burial flag at no cost for a Veteran's funeral. After applying for a flag, you can pick it up at what location?
What's your team name?
Who's playing tonight (first names)?
